Laura and Taylor’s love story is one of serendipity and deep connection. They first met at university in Ottawa, where sparks flew when Taylor offered to drive Laura home for the holidays. But their story actually started much earlier—when they were preschoolers.
It wasn’t until they were already dating that they discovered they had grown up just minutes apart and had even been in the same preschool class. Their parents’ old home videos even capture glimpses of them together as toddlers! They always say they were lucky enough to meet for the first time twice—once as kids and again at 19.
After relocating to Toronto for post-grad, the couple navigated semi-long distance due to work and other major life events. Engagement and marriage were always in their future, but life (and a pandemic) meant they set their date a little further out. After 12 years together, their wedding wasn’t about marking the beginning of a new chapter—it was a celebration of the beautiful life they had already built with the people they love.
Laura’s journey to finding her dress was nothing short of magical. She had a true “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” moment when she found a bride selling a custom-made gown from her Italian wedding. The dress was everything she had envisioned—romantic, timeless, yet relaxed—and as fate would have it, she and the original bride shared the exact same measurements. It was perfection!
Along with her wedding gown, she incorporated sentimental pieces into her wedding wardrobe, including a repurposed top made from her mother’s 1980s wedding dress, a vintage clutch, borrowed earrings from a best friend, and a re-set heirloom engagement ring from her grandmother, preserving its original engraving, “Forget me not.”
For Taylor, as someone who wears suits daily, he wanted a wedding look that felt special. His custom ivory tuxedo jacket was inspired by Frank Ocean’s 2014 Met Gala look, and he paired it with a gold vintage 1960s Timex Marlin watch to complement his custom-designed signet-style wedding band.
Laura and Taylor tied the knot on a summer evening at a stunning downtown heritage property in Toronto, located in the heart of the iconic Queen West neighbourhood. With 150 guests, they embraced a classic yet laid-back atmosphere, blending effortless elegance with vintage glam. They knew they wanted a timeless, minimal aesthetic, but everything truly came together once they found their venue, allowing them to build their details around its charming historic character.
Opting for an evening ceremony at 7 PM, Laura and Taylor embraced the magic of a twilight celebration. They forewent a formal sit-down dinner in favor of a chic, cocktail-style reception featuring an elevated pizza party—an approach that encouraged mingling and a relaxed, celebratory energy.
The day-of preparation was a true labor of love, with family and friends pitching in to set up, creating a sense of community before the festivities began. Keeping decor minimal, they let the venue’s beauty shine, enhancing it with 200 pillar candles, string lights from the upper-level balcony, and a custom touch—swapping one of the venue’s vintage portraits in the grand staircase for a framed photo of themselves. Their welcome table featured the first photo they ever took together—at age four!
Laura and Taylor’s wedding was the perfect blend of sentimentality, elegance, and effortless fun. From their serendipitous love story to the deeply personal touches throughout their day, every moment was a reflection of their journey together and the incredible community that surrounds them.
